ECLECTIC Blend of stories & essays
Welcome to Forgottonia
Forgottonia is a place where you can endlessly wander the lonely roads, and never once miss the fast lane. The name Forgottonia captures an image of a region off the beaten path which is very true of Western Illinois. A multi-faceted land enriching lives through many ages.
This is a blog of sorts; the reader will find my thoughts, travels, and dreams.

Mom’s stroke progress – A Mommy Blog?
I am a farm boy from Smithshire Illinois, the heart of Forgottonia. When telling people where I am from I have often been asked, ‘Are there hobbits?’ The people of my boyhood community were indeed much like hobbits, but normal feet.
I loved listening to people’s stories as I grew up, and I still do. I farmed and have likely racked, stacked, and fed more square bales than anyone reading this.
I bought a Fat Mac in 1985 and have had a Mac ever since. I developed a farm record system for Mac and Windows with Excel macros and Visual Basic. I left farming to do more tech things. I am still tied to the land and the spirits it holds.
I now search for history and stories by piling my camping stuff into my Crossfire and heading to historic sites of the Indigenous Peoples, Civil War Battlefields, and other National Parks. I usually seek out places with few people. Places where history is still existent in the swirling mists. I am a tapestry of the stories people have shared with me, possibly a slightly dusty, worn and faded tapestry.
